| Koala survives 60-mph impact, 7 miles in grille | | This story was carried on Reuters last night. Here is the link:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25681756CANBERRA, Australia - A koala that cheated death after being hit by a car at about 60 mph and dragged with his head jammed through the vehicle grille for about 7 miles is being dubbed Australia's luckiest marsupial. The eight-year-old male koala, named "Ely 'Lucky' Grills" by rescuers, was struck by an unwitting motorist north of Brisbane and found only when the car stopped after being flagged down by another vehicle."Lucky" hung on during his ordeal with one arm and his trapped head, and was freed with household scissors used like a fireman's "jaws-of-life" to cut around the car's mesh grille with the horrified owner's permission.Lucky was in shock but he quickly recovered and was nearly better after a couple of hours rest and a meal.
Lucky will stay at a hospital set up by the late television wildlife and crocodile crusader Steve Irwin for 45 days to recover from his experience and receive treatment for a chlamydial infection.Apparently they named him appropriately. What a lucky day it was for that Koala.

| | New Honda Civic - Facelift | | The New Honda Civic Facelift has been release in its home market of Japan. The changes are minor. It include a new front grille design which has a thicker chrome bar at top and redesign with sharper edges. This give the grille a wider appearance. A new front bumper with wider air intake to appear sportier and a new tail lamp (which is no longer round)The interior does not change much except the updates to the in-car audio system. The latest Civic Facelift suport inputs like USB and has new fabric for seats. This is a great job from Honda indeed not much changes from the new Civic facelift. p by the late television wildlife and crocodile crusader Steve Irwin for 45 days to recover from his experience and receive treatment for a chlamydial infection.Apparently they named him appropriately. | Miracle Dog's 60 Mile Car Odyssey | | A dog clung to the front of the car for almost 60 miles. The dog is recovering after managing to cling to the grille of a car for almost 60 miles. The dog travelled all the way from Coleraine to Belfast, wedged in the front of a Peugeot 306.The driver thought he had struck something on the dual carriageway outside Coleraine after hearing a thud, but when he saw nothing on the road, he continued unaware of his "passenger". It was only when he got out at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast that he heard a barking sound coming from the front bonnet. After such an ordeal, the dog was understandably grumpy, and this attitude has earned him the nickname Father Jack, in honour of the cantankerous priest in the sitcom Father Ted."(my e-mail) | |
| | Pet Have You Well Trained? | | I swear that Lady has got to rank among the world’s most spoiled pets. She probably ranks somewhere near Leona Helmsley’s dog, “Trouble,” who inherited $12 million after Helmsley died at age 87 last year. The only difference is that neither Lady nor I are worth billions.Last night when we went to bed, Lady insisted on a “sleepover” with two of her stuffed friends, a chicken and a skunk.Generally right before she settles down to sleep, Lady positions herself at the foot end of the bed, taking up an entire corner. She abandoned her sleepover friends in order to get her beauty rest. This morning after I took her outside to “do her thing,” I went into our bedroom to make the bed. I took Stinky and Cluck-Cluck and tossed them into one of the walk-in closets that houses Lady’s rather extensive toy collection. No sooner did they hit the floor, they were back on the yet-unmade bed, along with Lady who was happily tossing them in the air and retrieving them as they fell to the floor.I scooped them up a second time and tossed them back to her menagerie. Again, she returned first with the chicken, followed shortly by the skunk. This time I opened the slider leading to the... | |

| The most unluckiest koala is named Lucky!!! | | A koala survived being dragged for almost nine miles with its head stuck in the grille of a car with barely a scratch. The koala is named "Lucky Grilles" after his narrow escape and is now recovering at a wildlife refuge. After an examination on the 8 year old showed that he was in good health and had no serious injuries.Lucky was found with his bottom sticking out of the grille of a woman's car after she pulled up at a petrol station near Brisbane. The driver had noticed a koala on the road but drove on when she failed to see anything in her rear mirror earlier.
Only was it when she stopped the koala was found.Lucky is now being kept for treatment for an infection he was found to have before the incident . | |
| | Another fundraiser scheduled | | I've shceduled another fundraiser to make money for my Breast Cancer 3-Day walk in October. I'm almost halfway to my goal and I should be halfway by next week. I'm hoping that I'll be very close by mid-July because I'm having a pretty big fundraiser at a local restaurant. The Greene Turtle Sports Bar and grille sets aside Tuesdays to hold their Funds for Friends campaign. They arrange with local people to donate 10% of their sales for the day to charity. I have scheduled with our local Greene Turtle to have my day on Tuesday, July 8th. It's great, I tell all my family and friends, I put out some flyers, contact the local newspaper, whatever "advertising" I want to do for this day. The idea is to get as many people as I can to visit this restaurant on my day - July 8th - so that the sales will be pretty high. Then my Breast Cancer 3-Day walk fund gets 10% of their sales!I'm pretty excited about it and if it goes over well, I have another restaurant that I'd like to approach and see if they'll do the same thing for me.I'm still selling raffle tickets for my July fundraiser - $5 tickets are eligible for a nightly $50 prize. If you're... | |
